Get to Know Us
Project Happiness LSMO began in 2016 with a simple idea: use kindness and positivity to bring people together during a time that seemed to be increasingly fraught with political division and tension. As a mom of two and self-proclaimed “block party planner”, Jennifer Hunsinger wanted to protect what mattered most to her – a strong neighborhood and a connected community where her daughters could grow up feeling safe and supported.

Who Are We
Project Happiness LSMO is a people-centered, positivity-filled nonprofit with one major goal: to make the world more awesome! We are dedicated to spreading kindness, encouragement, and hope – one message at a time. From yard signs and Positivity Pods to community events and contributions, everything we do is about lifting people up and reminding them that they are not alone. Watch the video below to hear from our founder, Jennifer Hunsinger, and find out more about Project Happiness LSMO.

Our Story

Project Happiness LSMO began in 2016 with a simple idea: use kindness and positivity to bring people together during a time that seemed to be increasingly fraught with political division and tension. As a mom of two and self-proclaimed “block party planner”, Jennifer Hunsinger wanted to protect what mattered most to her – a strong neighborhood and a connected community where her daughters could grow up feeling safe and supported.
So Jennifer did what came naturally – she brought people together. Instead of political signs, she suggested fun yard signs with uplifting messages meant to make people smile while inspiring hope and kindness. She pitched the idea to her family before going door to door to each of her neighbors, and pretty soon the whole block was involved. Several people came together at her house to create signs that were then placed in every yard on their street, and the response was amazing! Cars honked. People waved and gave thumbs up. Strangers stopped to ask questions.
What was meant to be a one-time project quickly turned into something much bigger than Jennifer ever could have imagined. Before long, the message of positivity was spreading far beyond one block in Lee’s Summit, and community support was pouring in. People began donating – not because they had to, but because they wanted to help this message continue. This generosity led to Project Happiness LSMO becoming a registered nonprofit in 2019 and paved the way for our organization to make an even greater impact.
Then 2020 happened, and instead of slowing down, Project Happiness LSMO showed up in an even bigger way. Jennifer and her daughters spent the summer making over 1,500 signs that were freely shared and offered hope, connection, and smiles at a time when people needed them the most.
Project Happiness LSMO was born from a single act of connection that today has grown into a larger movement that continues to spread happiness and positivity throughout Lee’s Summit – one sign, one message, and one smile at a time. We are so excited for you to be part of our story!
